Service Description

A 3-Day Gravel Stage Race in Bolivia. The Legend that Inspires the Route
At the beginning of the 20th century, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid arrived in Bolivia fleeing from justice. Their final escape in the Potosí highlands became shrouded in myth and reality, becoming part of the collective imagination of Uyuni and the Salar de Uyuni.  The Gunmen's Route takes that story as inspiration: it's not about visiting the same towns they visited, but about reliving the spirit of adventure, challenge and escape in an equally extreme setting — the world's largest salt desert. 3 stages. 3 chapters of a legend.
Each section recreates a moment from the legendary gunmen's last escape. From the ambush to the final refuge, you'll cycle through extreme landscapes where history and adventure intertwine with every kilometer. Stage 1 - The Ambush (50km) :: Initial circuit next to the train tracks and Colchani.  First contact with the salt flats, tactics and rhythm. Stage 2 - The Great Breakaway (115km) :: The queen stage: reddish roads, Andean communities and the crossing of the Salar to the Island of the Flags. Stage 3 - The Last Refuge (72km) :: Round the Tunupa Volcano and arrival at the salt flat.  Andean lunch (Atapi style) and closing ceremony. Race Package includes 5-day/4-night, 5-Star Boutique Hotel accommodation and meals October 23-27. Built in the 1930s, it is now a popular, thrilling mountain biking destination, offering dramatic, rapid altitude shifts from cold highlands to humid rainforests. We. Must. Go.
